The Walking Dead universe is full of spinoff series, with several more in the works. The fandom enjoys seeing different stories in the universe as no one is sure what an apocalypse will actually look like. There are even numerous webisodes depicting side stories that tie into one of the main series. So far, there have been no mashups with The Walking Dead and another series, but Rainn Wilson has an idea.

During an interview with Popculture.com, where The Office star was promoting Tenderfoot TV’s Radio Rental podcast, he talked about a possible spinoff or reboot of the wildly popular The Office series. He commented about the greatness of the show and its legions of fans. Although he is skeptical that there will ever be a reboot or spinoff, he had an interesting idea that was, of course, said, tongue in cheek:

"“Maybe an Office movie could be fun. An Office road trip movie. Everyone’s driving across the country to go to Creed’s funeral. At the last moment, it turns out he’s not dead, pops out of his coffin. Then we combine it with a Walking Dead spinoff series, Dwight versus zombies. Everyone has wanted to see Dwight versus zombies from the get-go. So there’s a world of possibility out there.”"

But, as an Office and Walking Dead fan, I would totally be on board for this. Who wouldn’t want to see Dwight battling zombies?

The Walking Dead – spinoff series

There may never be an Office/Walking Dead mashup, but several spinoffs are being developed. The flagship series will air its final eight episodes this fall, and fans are eager to see the stories continue.

This summer, Tales of the Walking Dead will premiere. This series is anthology based and its first season will consist of six stories. Showrunner Channing Powell has written or co-written episodes of The Walking Dead since season 4 and two season 6 episodes of Fear the Walking Dead, making her very familiar with the fandom. Michael Satrazemis and Tara Nicole Weyr are two directors for Tales who have previously directed in The Walking Dead universe. Haifaa al-Mansour and Deborah Kampmeier are new to the fandom, which is always exciting, and each directed an episode of this series.

Maggie and Negan will travel to Manhattan in their spinoff series, Isle of the Dead. This series is set to release in 2023.

Daryl will star in a yet-to-be-titled spinoff that will be set in Europe.

The Walking Dead will return to AMC this fall with the final eight episodes of the series.
