Fear the Walking Dead season 7

What do you do when doing bad goes bad? Do good to do good!

If you’re a normal person (as opposed to a sociopath or a megalomaniac), once you’ve realized that you’ve done awful things in the name of some good you failed to achieve, you’ll feel guilt and regret about the things you’ve done. In a zombie apocalypse, this can quickly become a recipe for suicide, which would be extremely bad since the whole point of all of this is to survive.

But, what do you do? How do you make up for what you’ve done? Can you?

I believe that you can, so long as you’re willing to recognize that you did wrong, why you did wrong, and are willing to try to make amends.

As for how well, it depends. If your group is still willing to have you (and they weren’t the ones who compelled you to take up the whole “Ends justify the means” thing), you should identify genuine threats and protect them from those threats. If that’s not possible, then finding supplies and securing those supplies for your group is another good way towards working your way back from the dark place you’d brought yourself.

I think the best thing you can do, though, if you have the opportunity, is to protect or provide a future for any kids in your group, including your own. If you can protect and provide for the innocent and do so by doing good, it will be the best way, maybe the only way, to make up for any misguided actions you might have taken.

The only solution to doing bad to do good is to do good to do good.

And that’s our Walking Dead Survival Rule Of The Week!  People believe that the ends justify the means, i.e., if what you’re working towards is, ultimately, good, that justifies whatever you do to achieve it, up to and including outright atrocities. In a zombie apocalypse, where so many old rules go out the window, you’re more likely to see this notion pop up. But, just because it might be more common doesn’t make it good. More likely than not, you’ll drag yourself down to Hell in trying to get to Heaven. If you want to survive in the apocalypse without dragging yourself to Hell, why not pick up a copy of my book, The Rules: A Guide To Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse!
