Fear the Walking Dead: Is Morgan gone for good?
By Renee Hansen
Fear the Walking Dead has been killing off several characters during season 7B. In the most recent episode, “The Raft,” there were no major deaths, but another interesting development was that one character left the group searching for a safe place for baby Mo. The question on viewers’ minds is, is Morgan (Lennie James) gone for good?
Morgan Jones is a staple in The Walking Dead universe, love him or hate him, he has been a part of this world since the pilot episode of the flagship series. He and his son Duane (Adrian Kali Turner) aided Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) when he woke from his coma to a zombie apocalypse and had no idea what was happening.
He would be seen off and on during The Walking Dead’s early seasons and become a regular cast member in season 6. By season 9, fans would see him become the first crossover character from TWD to Fear the Walking Dead during its fourth season.
Fear the Walking Dead – Morgan Jones
Morgan has been on a quest to safely remove Mo from Strand’s (Colman Domingo) Tower. He knows the baby is what Strand uses as a safeguard against an attack. The episode “Sonny Boy” saw John Dorie Sr. (Keith Carradine) sacrifice himself to get Mo safely to her father.
Mo has become a symbol to the group. A sign of a future, and everyone intends to make her future better than the life they are living now.
This week in “The Raft,” Morgan decides to take Mo somewhere else to keep her safe. At the beginning of the episode, Dwight (Austin Amelio) and Sherry (Christine Evangelista) met a woman named Maya (Candice Michele Barley), who was searching for her son Marco. She came from a place free of the nuclear fallout, where Morgan is headed.
Was the place she came from PADRE that everyone has been looking for? Or will Morgan find a new place where they can move away from the nuclear wasteland?
Is this how the showrunners set up the move in filming from Austin, Texas, to Savannah, Georgia, for season 8? Texas and Georgia are very different, so it seems plausible that the group would move to a new location, especially since there appears to be a way out of this atmosphere that makes people sick or has the potential to.
There has been no announcement that Lennie James is leaving the series for good, so Morgan will likely be seen again.
