The Walking Dead’s Lauren Ridloff cast in new romantic drama
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead series has completed filming for its final season, and we are seeing many of our favorites cast in new projects. Lauren Ridloff, who played Connie on the series for seasons 9-11, has been cast in a yet-to-be-titled romantic drama that will air on Starz.
Deadline reports that Ava DuVernay has landed a three-year deal with Starz to develop a romantic drama. Lauren Ridloff and Joshua Jackson will star and serve as executive producers for the series. This announcement occurred at Starz’s inaugural #TakeTheLead summit, where DuVernay, Ridloff and Jackson discussed the series.
The half-hour drama tells of the romantic relationship between two people who are complete opposites. One is ambitious, the other restless, one is black, the other is white, and one is deaf and not. Another significant difference is one of them is ready for commitment while the other isn’t quite there. This series shows that true love surpasses all.
Kathryn Busby, President, Original Programming, Starz, is excited about the new series and had this to say:
"There is nothing like this series on TV and we are thrilled to be in development with Ava, a trailblazer and unparalleled champion of diversity. Lauren is a true inspiration and together with Joshua, a brilliant veteran actor, they will bring their incredible talents to this project – both in front of and behind the camera. This series exemplifies our #TakeTheLead mission, and we couldn’t be prouder."
Lauren Ridloff – other roles
The new series isn’t the first time Ridloff and Jackson have performed together. In 2018 they starred in the Broadway revival of Children of a Lesser God. They both received award nominations for their performances.
Another highlight in Ridloff’s career is that she has made history with her portrayal of Makkari in Eternals, making her the first deaf superhero in the MCU.
Other roles she is known for include The Magnificent Meyersons, Sound of Metal, New Amsterdam and Legacies. Next, she will star in a short titled Charlie and the Hunt.
Recently Ridloff was given an Honorary Doctorate of Human Letters from Gallaudet University. She spoke at the 2022 commencement ceremonies at the university, where she shared her mantra with the class: PACE -Perseverance, Adaptability, Commitment, and Empathy.
