The Walking Dead fandom celebrates Melissa McBride

Melissa McBride is an anchor in The Walking Dead series. She began her portrayal of Carol Peletier in the second episode of season 1 of the series and has continued to survive through to the end. This fall, the final eight episodes of the series will air, bringing the flagship series to conclusion, but the hope is we will see more of Carol in the future. McBride celebrated her birthday this week, and the fandom came out in full force to celebrate along with her.

Carol’s journey has been filled with heartbreak. Throughout the series, she has lost many children, one biological and the others adopted, which has left holes in her heart that can never be repaired. She has also been one of the characters who has experienced substantial growth. Gone is the frightened, abused wife, and warrior with a heart of gold has emerged.

It was recently announced that McBride would not be starring in the spinoff series scheduled to star Carol and Daryl (Norman Reedus). After filming 11 seasons in 12 years, with the final season taking 14 consecutive months, she has decided she needs a much-needed and deserved break. The filming location for this series will be in Europe, which didn’t fit her at this time either. This was a sad announcement for her fans to hear as they were looking forward to seeing Carol’s story continue. Reedus has stated in several interviews that fans haven’t seen the last of Carol, giving viewers hope that she will reappear in a spinoff or something at a later date.

Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang wished the ‘radiant queen’ a special day with a thread of photos.
