National Hug a Cat Day where is Skidmark of Fear the Walking Dead?

The Walking Dead universe creates amazing characters that fans can relate to and often grow extremely fond of. Over the 12 years since the first episode of TWDU aired, you can’t find a fan of the franchise who doesn’t have at least one favorite character. Then the creators decided we didn’t have a strong enough emotional connection with the human characters, so they added fur characters, but they still don’t show much love for horses. YIKES! It is National Hug a Cat Day which reminds us of Skidmark and people
The Walking Dead finally gave in to Norman Reedus’ unending pleas to give Daryl a dog, and in season 9, he got his wish. Enter in Dog (Seven), and fans changed their mantra to “If Dog dies, we riot.” In the final season of the series, as far as anyone knows, Dog is alive and well in the Commonwealth.
Fear the Walking Dead added a fur friend in its fifth season, and like many characters in TWDU, this one has gone MIA without an explanation. This series also introduced Rufus (Wyatt), the dog companion of Emile and then Josiah LaRoux (Demetrius Grosse), but his death is too sad to discuss.
Fear the Walking Dead – Skidmark
During the season 5 episode “Ths Hurt That Will Happen,” fans were introduced to a cuddly feline named Skimark (Raja Afghani). Perhaps not quite so cuddly but loyal to his human Daniel Salazar (Ruben Blades), who is his source of food.
When Skidmark first meets Victor Strand (Colman Domingo), Daniel tells him that the cat likes him, but he doesn’t put much stock in that because “He licks his own ass.”
Viewers see much of the feline during season 5 as he aids Daniel in disarming traps and distracting walkers with the bell on his collar. He one episode, Daniel remarks to Grace (Karen David) that he finds it hard to believe he is out doing good for others with her and “a cat with serious behavioral issues.” During the episodes with Virginia (Colby Minifie), Daniel is separated from Skidmark, but Strand reunites the pair as a peace offering.
Although he hasn’t been seen since season 5, Daniel did mention him in the season 7 episode, “Ofelia,” when he tells Lucina (Danay Garcia) that he is having trouble keeping things straight and that he lost his cat before the mess they find themselves in.
But, fans can breathe a sigh of relief because Blades confirmed that the cat is alive during an interview in 2021 at a virtual PaleyFest event. Showrunner Ian Goldberg has also confirmed that Skidmark was safely away from the bomb territory in a stream with TWDUniverse on Twitch in 2021.
So, we may never see him again but can rest in the knowledge that Skidmark is alive and well.
