Fear the Walking Dead – Gone

Madison made it clear to Morgan in this week’s Fear The Walking Dead season 7 finale that she’s gone too far. In this week’s survival rule, I ask: How far would you go?

The finale of season seven of Fear The Walking Dead was titled “Gone.” This was a reference to Madison’s idea that “no one’s gone until they’re gone,” i.e., the idea that a person wasn’t bad until they’d truly gone bad; as we saw in the aforementioned episode, Madison believed that she, by her own standard, was gone.

She believed this because, at the behest of P.A.D.R.E., Madison had participated in their kidnapping ring to collect children for their attempt to raise them with “no attachments.” Under the agreement, they would attempt to help her locate her children, Nick and Alicia, in exchange for her services.

However, after aiding in P.A.D.R.E.’s cruel quest, Madison apparently became so disgusted with herself that she refused their offer, deciding that she didn’t want her children to see her after what she’d done. She wondered if that was P.A.D.R.E.’s intent, furthering their “no attachments” policy to include their underlings, only through more indirect means.

This got me thinking: How far would we go in a zombie apocalypse? What would it take to break our moral codes and become someone we wouldn’t recognize? And, what would it take for us to get back? In this week’s Fear The Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week, I intend to get to the bottom of these questions because I believe it’s important for us to know where our limits are, know how far we’d go, what that might cost us, how that could be used against us, and why we need to try to get ourselves, back if we can.
