Is Alicia dead on Fear the Walking Dead?
By Renee Hansen
Alicia Clark is a character portrayed by Alycia Debnam-Carey on the AMC series Fear the Walking Dead. Alicia has been on the series since the pilot episode and has experienced much during seven seasons. During the penultimate episode of the seventh season, “Amina,” Alicia broke away from the main group of survivors, and this episode marked the final for Debnam-Carey in this series.
Fans of the series had been anxiously awaiting the reunion between Alicia and her mother, Madison (Kim Dickens), who had long been thought dead. In season 4, Madison made a heroic move at the Dell Diamond to ensure that her children and the others could safely escape and, in doing so, lost her life, or so it seemed. But, if there isn’t a body or reanimated version in The Walking Dead universe, they aren’t really dead. Dickens announced her return to the series on an episode of Talking Dead, and fans expected to see her much sooner than the season 7 finale.
In the second to the last episode of season 7, Alicia decided to break from the main group as they floated away on rafts to find a safe place to live away from the nuclear fallout in Texas. She was searching for the people who heard her message to come to the Tower for a safe place to live. The Tower had been set on fire, and she felt she needed to help anyone who would be heading that way.
Fear the Walking Dead – Alicia
Alicia was bitten by a walker and was forced to amputate her arm. She believed she didn’t get to it in time and that the infection did make it into her bloodstream. During the entirety of season 7, she battled fevers and fever-induced dreams, causing her to make poor decisions and obsess with dying or turning.
By the end of her time on the series, Alicia didn’t die but had, in fact, miraculously begun to feel better. Instead of sticking with her loved ones and looking for a new place to live, she heads back to the Tower to warn the people who heard her messages saying the Tower was safe.
Her departure in this episode deprived viewers of the reunion between Madison and Alicia, which is just cruel. This leaves the door open for her to return, which fans will be glad of, but if you are going to leave a zombie series, it’s much better to go out in a blaze of glory.
