In just a little over a month, Isle of the Dead will begin filming in New York City. This series is another spinoff in The Walking Dead universe. A series that will continue the story of enemies turned allies, Negan Smith (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan), as they venture to the island of Manhattan.

Recently, Morgan teased that he and Cohan have read the Isle of the Dead script and stated, “it will blow fans f’ing minds.” Fans went wild with the news, excited to see what the next chapter will hold for these characters.

It is quite the odd pairing as these two have been enemies since Negan brutally bludgeoned Maggie’s husband Glenn to death with his barbed wire-wrapped bat, Lucille.  Maggie was hell-bent on revenge, and who could blame her, but things changed when the pair were forced together to battle against the Reapers in season 11. Maggie saw a different side to Negan, and although she will never forgive or forget his past, she did say he was beginning to trust him.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan – Negan

Negan has mellowed out during his time as a prisoner at Alexandria. He became friends with Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming) and has proven several times over that he is a changed man. Gone is the leader of the Saviors with a God complex, and in its place is a man just trying to do what is right for his fellow survivors.

In a recent Instagram post, Morgan shared kick-ass fan art of Negan and Rick, with Rick’s missing arm, comic book style. He talked about missing Andrew Lincoln and all the fun they had, and how it’s crazy to think that the end of the flagship series is near.

Another interesting comment is regarding Isle of the Dead. He stated that he and Cohan will begin filming this series in a little over a month. And then comments, “No rest for the wicked… and make no mistake… wicked is making a return.”

Is he teasing that Negan will once again return to his wicked ways? It has been speculated that his current wife Annie and their unborn child will be killed before the series end. Will this be what sends Negan back to his wicked ways and on to Manhattan? Will something happen to make Maggie turn “wicked” as well? (they better not hurt Hershel!)

Who knows, and who cares? We want Negan back! He is one of the best villains The Walking Dead has ever seen and if Isle of the Dead can bring him back, this series will be wildly popular with fans of this character. Isle of the Dead won’t premiere until sometime in 2023.
