Walking Dead alum Juan Javier Cardenas in new HBO Max series

Juan Javier Cardenas portrayed Dante in season 10 of The Walking Dead. He was a character that viewers weren’t quite sure of, and then the truth was revealed. He was a spy sent by the Whispers to sabotage Alexandria. He also took part in the beheading of Alpha’s (Samantha Mortons) pike victims. Cardenas has been cast in a new role much different than his Walking Dead role in a new series for HBO Max called Gordita Chronicles.

This series will premiere on HBO Max on June 23, 2022. Executive producers for the series include Zoe Saldana, Eva Longoria, Josh Berman, Jennifer Robinson, Chris King, Mariel Saldana, Cisely Saldana, writer Claudia Forestieri and showrunner Brigitte Munoz-Liebowitz. Longoria also directs the first episode of the series.

The series is set in 1985 and follows the Castelli family who leaves their home in the Dominican Republic to pursue the “American Dream” in Miami. The story revolves around 12-year-old Cucu and her unique family in this coming-of-age series. Together they meet the challenges and opportunities they face head-on with humor and bravado.

Gordita Chronicles cast – including Juan Javier Cardenas

Cucu “Gordita” (Olivia Goncalves) must experience her teenage years while adapting to a whole new way of life. Cardenas portrays the Castelli family’s patriarch, Victor, a marketing exec. His wife Adela is played by Diana Maria Riva, a bold, tell-it-like-it-is mother. And Emila, Cucu’s status-obsessed older sister, is played by Savannah Nicole Ruiz.

Also starring Noah Rico, Cosette Hauer, Dascha Polanco with Patrick Fabian and Loni Love as guest stars.

Gordita Chronicles trailer

The official trailer for Gordita Chronicles humorously displays the Castelli’s first impressions of the United States. Cucu expresses her displeasure as they stare at the unimpressive City Center Motel, stating, “The song said ‘America the Beautiful, I think they oversold it.”
