Fear the Walking Dead season 7 finale

If something “too good to be true isn’t manipulation, it’s probably a trap.

I feel there are one of two likely possibilities if you find something “too good to be true” in a zombie apocalypse: Either it’s an attempt to manipulate you, or it’s a trap.

It makes perfect sense for someone to try it when you think about it. If you are a person, or a group, who may not be that good at strategy or all-out combat, or are in an area where supplies are exceedingly limited, or too far away to search for, or so far away that they’re not worth the time or energy expending getting them, then using something valuable is a great way to lure people in so you can take their supplies.

Now, what the bait is depends. I imagine the most likely one would be a good base or maybe even a stable community.

Think back to Terminus in the second half of season four of The Walking Dead. They successfully used the allure of a stable, peaceful, and well-supplied community to bring in victims to abduct and, in many cases, eat. They would pass themselves off as friendly and benevolent, even offering food and sanctuary, and either rope people into their sick diet (Through the very food they were offering, which was human meat, of course) or corral them into their cattle cars for “processing” later. If you don’t think people would consider emulating that same tactic in a real zombie apocalypse, you got another thing coming.

If you find something that you think is too good to be true, be extremely careful because merely being within sight of it might put you well within the boundaries of a massive trap left by hostile survivors, who will probably be lying in wait for any unsuspecting people who walk into their web. Get away from it as quickly as possible and be on your toes because whoever left that trap is probably hiding in the shadows, waiting to ambush you.
