Jon Bernthal stars in Lena Dunham’s steamy Slap Stick trailer

Jon Bernthal has been killing it as Wayne Jenkins in the HBO Max series We Own This City.  He will soon be seen in Showtime’s American Gigolo series that is based on the film of the same name. This summer, he will star in Lena Dunham’s movie Sharp Stick.

Dunham wrote, directed, produced and stars in the new comedy film, Sharp Stick. The film premiered virtually at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and followed a naive 26-year-old who has an affair with her employer, a married man whose wife is expecting his child. The official synopsis states that she is thrust into an education on sexuality, loss and power when she begins the affair.

In an interview with Deadline, Denham explains her inspiration for this film came from female-led movies of the 70s she watched during the pandemic. While there were several significant roles exploring a woman’s sexuality, most were created from a man’s POV.

Bernthal plays Josh, married to Dunham’s Heather, who is pregnant with his child.

The film will see a limited released on July 29 and then be released in theaters on August 5.
