Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Samuel’s Sweet Shop wins best Candy Store
By Renee Hansen
Many of our favorite Walking Dead universe actors have nonacting side gigs they are well known for. Norman Reedus has bigbaldgallery.com, several actors have podcasts and many are authors. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hilarie Burton Morgan are owners of Mischief Farms, MF Libations, and are partners in a candy shop in the Hudson Valley, Samuel’s Sweet Shop.
The Morgans, along with Paul Rudd, his wife Julie, Andy Ostroy, Pheobe Jonas, and John Traver, co-own Samuel’s Sweet Shop, located in Rhinebeck, NY. The shop was opened in 1994 by founder Ira Gutner as a boutique candy and coffee shop known as Samuel’s of Rhinebeck, which he affectionately named after his late Uncle Sam, who introduced him to penny candy as a child.
In 2014, Gutner’s sudden passing left the community in shock, and it appeared the shop might have to close. But, in steps local families who were passionate about what Samuels meant to the community with a desire to carry on Gutner’s dream. Today it is known as Samuel’s Sweet Shop and they pride themselves on continuing to provide the best candy, chocolate, coffee and tea to their customers.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan – Samuel’s Sweet Shop
Each year Hudson Valley Magazine, the authority of all there is to see and do in the area since 1972, hosts the Best of Hudson Valley, where residents vote for their favorite businesses.
Samuel’s Sweet Shop has been bestowed the honor of Best Candy Shop in the Hudson Valley for 2022. This is an exciting honor for the shop and its owners. Anyone who has ever owned a business knows that customers can make or break your business, and receiving an honor that your customers vote on is extra special.
If you are ever in the area, don’t miss a stop at Samuels. For those who can’t make a trip, the shop’s website offers shipping on their products. You can join the subscription club and receive monthly goodies at your door. The site has several sampler boxes, including JDM and Hilarie’s sample boxes that include their favorite items. The shop will also fill special orders for goodie bags, dessert catering and more.
Congrats to all of the owners of Samuel’s Sweet Shops.
