Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan will soon begin filming on their new series Isle of the Dead. This is a spinoff of The Walking Dead, a series that has run for 12 years and will air its final episode this fall. Many have thought the pairing of Morgan and Cohan’s characters, Negan and Maggie, quite odd as they have been enemies for quite some time.

Maggie’s hatred of Negan goes way back to the end of season 6 when he killed Glenn. No one can fault her for her feelings toward this man, but she hasn’t witnessed what appears to be true acts towards redemption. She has been so hellbent on revenge that it has clouded her mind and choices. So much so that she didn’t realize that she and Negan had much more in common than she could have ever imagined.

Now, Maggie may never forgive and surely will never forget, but she is beginning to trust the man Negan has become.

Negan and Maggie -Isle of the Dead

Even though there is mutual respect and trust beginning to build, it is hard to imagine what will take this duo off on a mission to the island of Manhattan. In a recent tweet, Morgan stated they had read the script, which will blow fans’ minds. Another comment was even more interesting.

"“No rest for the wicked… and make no mistake… wicked is making a return.”"

This led us all to believe that wicked Negan would be returning. But what if that isn’t what he meant? What if the thing that takes them on this mission brings out the wicked in not only Negan but Maggie as well? And, not where they turn into a villainous pair but are after someone who requires them to do vile things because something horrific has been done to them or someone they hold dear?

Negan has a wife who is expecting his child to think of and Maggie has Hershel. Would the creators actually let something happen to one or all of them, which draws Negan and Maggie together for this journey? It would be tough to watch, but man, it would make for a great story. I am ready for some gutsy writing in this fandom.

I guess we can speculate all we want, but we won’t know until the Isle of the Dead releases in 2023.

What do you think? Do you have any speculations you want to share? You can do it in the comments below, as I would LOVE to hear them!
