Thora Birch joined The Walking Dead series as a Whisperer in the tenth season. She was appointed Gamma by the Whisperer’s leader, Alpha (Samantha Morton) but previously went by the name Mary. Birch’s character didn’t last long on the series, but she did a fantastic job during her short stint on the show. She is fondly remembered for many of her memorable roles during her career that began when she was only four, but one role that has gained her a cult following is that of Dani in the 1993 movie Hocus Pocus. Will she reprise her role for the upcoming Hocus Pocus 2?
Sadly, Birch’s schedule didn’t allow her to take the offer from Disney to reprise her role as an adult version of Dani in the sequel film. At the time, she was filming for Wednesday, the Netflix series inspired by the Addams Family franchise.
The plan was for Birch to play Dani 29 years after the first film’s events, where she would aid three modern teens as they attempted to thwart the Sanderson sisters’ plan to terrorize Salem. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy return in Hocus Pocus 2 as their respective Sanderson Sister.

Birch is remembered as Wilford Brimley’s grandaughter in the Quater Oats commercials from the 80s. She would go on to star in other roles, including her film debut in Purple People Eater, for which she won the Youth In Film Award and a Young Artist Award in the category of “Best Young Actress Under Nine Years of Age.”

Next, Birtch will star in the Tim Burton/Netflix Wednesday, a series that focuses on the Addams family’s daughter as she attends Nevermore Academy. Birch plays Tamara Novak, the only normie on staff who is Wednesday’s dorm mother. Birch had to leave due to a personal matter, but the majority of her role had been filmed. No release date has been announced, but this will most likely be released during Netflix Halloween releases this fall.
She will also star in The Gabby Petito Story, a film about the true story of Gabby Petito, who was killed by her fiance Brian Laundrie during a cross-country journey. Birch has been cast as Petito’s mother, Nichole Schmidt.
