Fear the Walking Dead – the unknown is your enemy

Danger in a zombie apocalypse thrives in the unknown. Dark, abandoned, lifeless places will be dotted all over, and, within all of them could be any number of threats waiting for some unsuspecting survivor to stumble in. Zombies, hostiles, hell, even environmental hazards are all just lurking around, itching to become the demise of the unaware.

If zombies are anything like their counterparts in The Walking Dead universe, they will actually be pretty quiet most of the time, only becoming active if they see, hear, or feel something they can eat. Suppose they’re in an otherwise abandoned building. In that case, they will just stand around, doing nothing, tricking the overeager into thinking their home is empty, only to swarm the intruder the moment they come upon them.

This is why you need to know what you’re getting into when you go places in a zombie apocalypse. You need to know what the building was before you arrived, what state it’s in, and who or what might be occupying it now. Was it a safe-zone before everything collapsed? Could there be other survivors there? Or, is it filled with zombies? Is the building damaged? Do you have to worry about the walls, the roof, or the floor collapsing? You need to know these things before you walk into a place because if you don’t, you could easily be walking into an absolute deathtrap, made all the worse because it could have been avoided.
