In 2022, The Walking Dead aired the final episode of the series. This show drew its inspiration and source material from the comic series created by Robert Kirkman, who would serve as an executive producer and writer of the series. In 2019, Kirkman would abruptly end the comic story to the shock of fans.
Throughout the series, the storyline often takes a life of its own by straying from the source material. Several well-known characters in the series never appeared in the comics; Daryl & Merle Dixon, Sasha Williams, Deanna Monroe, Lizzie & Mika, and T-Dog are great examples. Some of these characters did have similar storylines to comic characters.
The flagship series would spawn several spinoffs, Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond and the upcoming Tales of the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Dead City, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, and the upcoming The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. There have been many web series as well, with one of the most popular being the recent Fear the Walking Dead: Dead in the Water, which shows the story of the crew aboard the USS Pennsylvania from Fear TWD.
The Walking Dead – the beginning
The Walking Dead series started airing on AMC on October 31, 2010. This series would set the bar for future movies and shows in the zombie genre. The theme is, of course, a zombie apocalypse, but viewers return for the stories of the survivors.
The pilot episode introduced viewers to Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), a man who had been in a coma when the outbreak occurred and woke to nothing he could have imagined. Luckily, he met Morgan Jones (Lennie James) and his son Duane ( Adrian Kali Turner), who helped him understand what had happened while he was out of commission.
Most fans consider the series’ first season the best, with the pilot episode as a standout. The Walking Dead series has concluded, but there is so much more to come in The Walking Dead universe.
