Tales of the Walking Dead not coming in July…but there’s good news!
By Renee Hansen
Tales of the Walking Dead is a spinoff of the long-running Walking Dead series. What makes this series unique is that it is anthology based, with each storytelling a new tale. This is an outstanding concept to add to The Walking Dead universe, which will expand the universe and the stories that have already been told. Sadly, the series won’t premiere in July, but we have great news.
This series has introduced an amazing new cast to the universe. According to IMDB, the actors joining this series include Olivia Munn, Samantha Morton (Alpha aka Dee), Jessie T. Usher, Danny Ramirez, Loan Chabanol, Embeth Davidtz, Gage Munroe, Lauren Glazier, Daniella Pineda, Terry Crews (James Sampson), Anthony Edwards (Kyle Adler), Parker Posey (Blair), Poppy Liu (Amy Zhang), Jillian Bell (Sandra Dolan), Rachael Markarian (Jenna), Eric Tiede (Nolan), Matt Medrano (Mauricio Gonzalez), Ari Loeb (Seventh Man- stunts), Marvin LaVoilette (Todd), William J. Simmons (Wendell Sampson), Nick Basta (Billy), Kevin J. Johnson, Robert Tinsely (Zombie) and Sarah Graham (Zombie).
One familiar name within TWDU is Samantha Morton, who will reprise her role. But, after looking into things further, her role appears to be different than expected. In the promo photo, her name is listed as Dee, and she has long hair, which fans know she shaved off early in the outbreak. Could we see a pre-outbreak story about Morton’s character?
Tales of the Walking Dead release date
The good news is that we don’t have long to wait for the premiere of Tales of the Walking Dead. AMC will air the first episode on August 15 at 9 p.m. ET., which is the traditional TWDU time slot. AMC+ will air the first two episodes of season 1 on this date, with subsequent episodes airing a week early.
This series is supposed to introduce new characters but also tell additional stories of already established characters in TWD world. No other previous Walking Dead cast members besides Morton have been revealed. Will we see more of past favorites? Or will there only be mentions of them tying some of the characters to these stories? It is an exciting concept that could really add to the fandom as the sky is the limit regarding content for this series.
