Fear the Walking Dead season 7, episode 16

Some people are hostile.

Have you ever met someone who just didn’t like you? Someone who, for no good reason you can fathom, was just a jerk to you right out of the gate? If you said “No”, I would find that highly unlikely, not as some kind of judgment on you, but just on the fact that there’s no way that someone gets along with everyone. No matter how much you might try to be accommodating to everyone around you, there’s going to be at least one person who’s going to dislike you for some reason, even if it’s only in their own head.

Think back to Morgan’s encounter with the parents posse. Because Morgan was someone they didn’t recognize and was carrying a baby, they immediately assumed him to be the person who had kidnapped their respective children, and set about executing him for his suspected transgressions. They didn’t have any proof, of course, but, they were so angry about losing their kids, they didn’t give a damn: Any stranger who stumbled upon that bit of Louisiana coast would likely have received the same warm welcome Morgan did.

My point is that, in a zombie apocalypse, you will meet people who, for whatever reason, are going to be immediately hostile, and attack you on sight. If you’re lucky, they won’t have guns, or you’ll see them before they see you.

If you are that lucky, it’s a good idea to stay out of sight of strangers until you know whether or not you can (Or even want to) reason with them. Meeting strangers is a coin toss; they can be peaceful when meeting you or hostile, and if there’s a 50% chance they’ll be hostile until you know otherwise, why take the risk?
