In what was a doubly sad announcement Walking Dead actor Khary Payton took to social media to announce his Covid positive diagnosis, which will mean he misses out on SDCC 2022. He was scheduled to attend The Walking Dead’s final panel and the Cartoon Network panel for Teen Titan Go!

He stated his symptoms are mild, and he is vaxxed and boosted, so he plans to sleep it off.

Our best wishes for his quick recovery.

Payton was set to attend the final Hall H Walking Dead panel on Friday, July 22, at 1:30 p.m. PT with fellow cast mates Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Christian Serratos, Ross Marquand, Seth Gilliam, Josh McDermitt, Michael James Shaw, Cailey Fleming, and Lauren Ridloff. Talking Dead host, Chris Hardwick is moderating the panel with Scott Gimple, Angela Kang, and Greg Nicotero, promoting the final eight episodes of the series. The panel will answer fan questions and discuss filming the last episodes, and the trailer for season 11, part 3, will be premiered.

He was also scheduled to attend Cartoon Network: Winner Takes All panel in the Indigo Ballroom Saturday, July 23 at 10 a.m. PT.  This will feature the cast and crew from Craig of the Creek (Philip Solomon, voice of Craig; Najja Porter, supervising director; Dashawn Mahone, supervising director), Teen Titans Go! (Pete Michail, executive producer; Tara Strong, voice of Raven; Khary Payton, voice of Cyborg), and We Baby Bears (Calvin Wong, showrunner; Connor Andrade, voice of Grizz; Amari McCoy, voice of Panda; Max Mitchell, voice of Ice Bear).

The Walking Dead – Khary Payton

Payton has long played King Ezekiel on The Walking Dead, one of several characters who did their comic counterpart justice by looking like they walked from page to screen. In season 11, he was battling cancer, and thanks to his dear friend Carol (Melissa McBride) and the advancements at the Commonwealth, he received life-saving surgery.

The last we saw of Ezekiel, he was joining Connie (Lauren Ridloff) and the others as they published a rogue paper revealing secrets about Governor Milton’s (Laila Robins) family. Only time will tell Ezekiel’s fate before the series ends.
