5. “TS-19”

  • Episode number: 106
  • Original airdate: Dec. 5, 2010
  • Major debuts: -none-

For a season finale, this episode felt strange. Not only did it not feature many walkers but a majority of the story took place indoors where the only real conflicts were interpersonal or internal.

Episode 106 did work well on some levels though. It left fans with some mysterious thoughts about what will come next and how this diverse group of survivors can work together against everything standing in their way.

Still, there was more character-building than a massive punch to the gut. It did set up the journey for the survivors after season 1, giving viewers a reason to tune in to future installments of the show.

Highlights from the episode:

  • More tension between Shane and the Grimes family. The group hasn’t been able to act as a complete unit since there is so much internal tension and it continues to lead toward an inevitable conflict.
  • An insight into the virus that causes people to turn. Many fans of the show want to learn a bit more about the origin or inner workings of the virus and some of that information is touched on.
  • Rick’s secret. When Dr. Jenner whispered something in Rick’s ear, it opened up an open page for a future plot point that was something viewers could look forward to.

Lowlight from the episode:

  • Not a lot of action. A lot of the conflict and tension in this episode comes from dialogue and non-violent actions. It might not be the most thrilling of episodes, and fans of fast action won’t care for this episode.
