2. “Tell it to the Frogs”

  • Episode number: 103
  • Original airdate: November 14, 2010
  • Major debuts: Daryl Dixon, Carol Peletier, Glenn Rhee, Sophia Peletier

Following their escape from Atlanta, the group made their way to an RV camp outside the city. While there, Rick is surprisingly reunited with his wife and son, but the duo seems to have assumed he was dead with Shane stepping in for husbandly and fatherly duties.

Meanwhile, a small group of the survivors decides to head back to Atlanta to retrieve the bag of guns Rick got from the police station as well as hopefully retrieve Merle Dixon from the rooftop before walkers got to him.

Highlights from the episode:

  • The big reunion. It was a bit surprising to see Rick reunite with his family when only three episodes into the series. but it was still quite a welcome development to the show. Most dramas would have stretched this story out throughout the first season but not The Walking Dead.
  • Shane ‘going Shane’ on Ed. There is just something awesome about someone who stands up for others. Seeing Ed slap Carol was something Shane just couldn’t let slide. He beat Ed to a bloody pulp

Lowlight from the episode:

  • Showcasing stereotypes. The split at the RV camp between the genders was obvious. The men were tasked with hunting while the women stayed at the camp to watch the kids and clean. Thankfully, those tropes changed as the show evolved and characters were used based on their ability, not their gender.
