"I’m just guarding against the worst. Sooner or later, if she’s not found, people will start doing math. I want to hold off the needs-of-the-many-versus-the- needs-of-the-few arguments as long as I can."

This line, from “What Lies Ahead” (2011), was Dale admitting to T-Dog that he’s already fixed the RV. However, he is pretending it’s still on the fritz to prolong the group’s search for Sophia. Obviously, the whole Sophia thing made season 2 a bit controversial for some, but it was a big deal at the time.

And hey, if you were in Dale’s actual shoes, would the thought not cross your mind to artificially keep them looking for a missing child? This was Dale trying to preserve the group once again.

"I’m gonna advise you to keep that theory to yourself."

From “Chupacabra” (2011). This is Dale warning Glenn against expressing a theory that the women are acting “super crazy hormonal” when their “cycles line up.” See? Dale knows!…or, well, he knew. Poor guy!

"This world, what it is now, this is where you belong. And I may not have what it takes to last for long, but that’s okay. ‘Cause at least I can say when the world goes to sh**, I didn’t let it take me down with it."

In the episode “Pretty Much Dead Already” (2011), this was Dale truly explaining the difference between himself and Shane. And you know what? Dale was 100% correct about the guy! Say what you want about Dale, but he had this quirky habit of actually making sense much of the time. Sure, Hershel comes pretty darn close to Dale in terms of wisdom and folk knowledge, but Dale was quicker to see certain things that others couldn’t, including just how shifty Shane was.
