Tales of the Walking Dead’s first episode, “Evie/Joe,” pairs up the dynamic duo of Terry Crews and Olivia Munn. The actors have great onscreen chemistry and know how to balance comedic elements in a horror setting. The pair worked together previously on the HBO series The Newsroom, which only helped their familiarity with one another for this series.

The episode begins with Joe (Crews), who lives in a bunker with his dog Gilly. A man who is a prepper who has been ready for any end-of-the-world scenario. Sadly, his dog is killed by some of the undead, putting Joe into a depression and making him realize he doesn’t want to be alone. He decides to seek out a gal he met online and only knows as USHLDBSCRD.

During his travels, he is captured by Evie (Munn), a woman with a very different outlook on life than he does but who is also seeking to find someone she cares about. After a very rocky start, they come to a common ground and continue on their journey.

They begin their travels in Ohio and travel to Michigan, where the people they seek live. This is interesting because, in The Walking Dead, the Commonwealth is located in Ohio. Another interesting fact is that the group would have passed through Ohio on their way to New York from Nebraska in The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

As things progress, problems arise, the pair argue and go their separate ways. Joe is able to locate the woman he chatted with online, whose name is Sandra (Kersti Bryan). Luckily Evie doesn’t find who she is looking for and searches for Joe because Sandra is a psycho and tries to kill him.

They are able to escape, and the next day Joe realizes he has wasted so much of his life. He gets very angry with himself, telling her he made his life worthless by keeping people away.

She tells him that he can start a new life now with her. They walk off together with their new pet lamb, and in honor of his dog Gilligan, they call her Skipper.

It was a great story to kick off Tales of the Walking Dead series, and we can’t wait to see what comes next. “Blair/Gina” will air next Sunday on AMC. This episode is available on AMC+ now.
