National Relaxation Day with ASMR Walking Dead sounds
By Renee Hansen
Today is National Relaxation Day, and we’re here to remind you that The Walking Dead has a great relaxation video for its fans. A couple of years ago, someone at AMC decided it would be a fun idea to create an ASMR video of a creepy walker, whisperer and other noises to soothe viewers of The Walking Dead while they are studying or relaxing.
The term ASMR was first coined in 2010 and stands for autonomous sensory meridian response. This is a feeling of euphoric tingling and relaxation that one experiences when one hears certain sounds or watches specific images on a video. A pleasant tingling begins at the scalp and makes its way down the limbs and to the rest of the body, creating a sedative and relaxing attitude.
Many people utilize these sounds and videos when they experience insomnia or to soothe when they feel anxious or need to unwind. There are numerous videos available by doing a quick ASMR video search online.
The Walking Dead version will not be for everyone, but I find it quite soothing. People who aren’t fans of zombies and horror may find it disturbing. You can see for yourself below.

Some of my favorite sounds in the video are the blades scraping on stone, the constant growl in the background, the soothing voice and the crunching leaves and twigs. The children’s laughter and chirping birds add a bit of whimsy that is quite unexpected. When Beta tells Alpha, ” It’s the only sound I never want to end,” referring to the growling of the walkers, I am not sure what it says about me, but I can relate.
The final minute of the video is quite chilling, so if you don’t have time for the entire thing, advance to 20:22 and listen.
What about you? Do you find this soothing or disturbing? Let us know in the comments below.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 2 at 9 p.m. with season 11, episode 17. On this same date, AMC+ will release episodes 17 and 18, with subsequent episodes airing one week early.
