Garret Dillahunt portrayed fan favorite John Dorie in Fear the Walking Dead during seasons 4-6. During his career, Dillahunt has starred in many other series, including ER, Deadwood, Justified and Raising Hope. He has starred in several new movies including Army of the Dead, Ambulance, and Where the Crawdads Sing. His new series Sprung has recently been released on Freevee, and you will want to check this one out!

Sprung reunites Dillahunt with his Raising Hope co-star and 80s icon Martha Plimpton and also reunites the actors with Raising Hope creator Greg Garcia. On August 19, the first two episodes were released on Amazon’s Freevee channel, a free ad-supported streaming platform. The remaining episode will release on Fridays, with an hour-long season finale on September 16.

Garcia directs all nine episodes of season 1 of Sprung and executive produces with Dillahunt, Michael Rotenberg, and Jonathan Berry.

The series is set during the pandemic when select inmates are released from prison early due to overcrowding concerns. Upon their release, they are informed of the shelter-in-place rule but have nowhere to live.  One inmate offers his mother’s house to two others, and she wants them to earn their keep by using their criminal expertise. They agree but only want to use their knowledge for good.

Sprung Cast

I have watched the first episode of this series and can’t wait to see what’s to come next. Garcia is the brains behind My Name is Earl, and you get a feel of that series in Sprung. The series is just a lot of fun with the amazing lowbrow humor Garcia is known for.

Dillahunt and Plimpton’s chemistry is spot on in their roles as Jack and Barb. They are joined by a great cast, including Phillip Garcia as Rooster, Barb’s son and Shakira Barrera as Gloria. I have yet to meet James Earl as Melvin and Clare Billies as Wiggles.

Guest stars for this series will include Kate Walsh (Grey’s Anatomy) as Congresswoman Paula Tackleberry, Camden Garcia (My Name is Earl), Andre Jamal Kinney (Embeds), Chris Bauer (Gaslit), Mark Christopher Lawrence, Mike Rob (The Equalizer), Fred Grandy (The Love Boat), Steven Ogg (The Walking Dead), Susan Ruttan (Shameless), and David Wells (Shameless).
