Tales Of The Walking Dead, Evie/Joe: Things To Note
By Liam O'Leary
Tales of the Walking Dead season 1
1) This episode’s theme is extremely bombastic for a Walking Dead show, with many horns and drums. This, it would turn out, is a subtle reference to Joe’s favorite pastime, college football, which is regularly accompanied by a marching band, for whom such instruments are part of their normal repertoire.
2) According to the whiteboard in Joe’s bunker, the beginning of this episode takes place four hundred and two days since the apocalypse began, or approximately one year, one month, and one week.
3) As Joe and Gilligan prepare to fight off the small herd attacking them, Joe activates a ring of sharpened rakes using a foot trigger. This defense is very similar to the circle of sharpened wooden stakes Morgan uses to protect himself during his “clearing” days in The Walking Dead season six episode, “Here’s Not Here.”
4) Gilligan, Joe’s Doberman, is the first named animal to die in Tales of The Walking Dead.
5) During the montage following the walker attack, as Joe goes to pet Gilligan (only to be reminded that he’s not there), you can see that his whiteboard now reads that it has been four hundred and fifty-two days since the apocalypse began. How many days between this one and Gilly’s death, though, we can’t tell.
