The Walking Dead series has aired on AMC since Halloween night, 2010. This is one of the longest-running series on AMC, and in August 2021, the series premiered the first episode of its eleventh and final season. Most fans watch during AMC’s Sunday night viewing, with many subscribing to AMC+ to watch new episodes one week early, but many still enjoy a good binge watch and wait until the new season airs on Netflix.  So, when will season 11 air on Netflix?

There are two schools of thought on the season 11 release on Netflix.

  1. AMC will release season 11, parts 1 and 2, ahead of this fall’s release of the series’ final eight episodes on October 2, 2022.
  2. AMC will wait until all of season 11 has aired on AMC to release the entire final season on the streamer sometime in 2023.

Traditionally AMC would release the previous season one month before the new season’s release date. Since season 11 has been broken into three parts, it is difficult to know the thought process for a Netflix release since there will be no additional seasons after the November 20, 2022 series finale episode.

The Walking Dead season 11 on Netflix

This writer believes AMC will hold off and make viewers wait until the entire Walking Dead season 11 airs on AMC before any episodes premiere on Netflix. That is my opinion; I have no inside knowledge to back this up.

But, I am basing this on season 10’s schedule and Netflix release date.

Season 10 premiere – October 6, 2019

Season 10 midseason finale – November 24, 2019

Season 10 midseason premiere – February 23, 2020

Season 10 season finale – October 4, 2020

Due to the pandemic, two things happened, there was a HUGE gap in the finale episode airing date, and the pandemic filming restrictions then led to season 10c bonus episodes. AMC didn’t release season 10 on Netflix until July 26, 2021, about a month before the season 11 premiere. They didn’t release season 10 on Netflix before season 10c aired on AMC.

This leads me to believe they will do the same for the final season and hold off a Netflix release of the entire season 11 after all of the episodes air on AMC this fall. This has to come as a blow to those who watch the series on Netflix that were hoping to see parts 1 and 2 of season 11 ahead of part three’s release in October. As I said, I have no inside intel to state this is a fact, I am just using what AMC has previously done.

The end of this series is going to be hard for the fandom, even though there is much to look forward to with several spinoffs in the works. Negan, Maggie, Daryl and Carol’s fates are secured, and they will see the end of the series and beyond, but what about the numerous other characters who are near and dear to viewers? There is no guarantee they will make it out alive.

The SDCC trailer below shows several of our survivors in precarious situations making us question their survival. Only time will tell what becomes of our group as they battle the  Commonwealth and the horde of walkers descending on that community.

The Walking Dead will return to AMC on October 2 with episode1117 and AMC+ will air 1117 and 1118 on that date.
