In 2020, it was announced that the eleventh season would be the last of The Walking Dead series. With this announcement, it was also revealed that the final season would consist of 24 episodes released in three parts. At that time, it seemed like it would be a long time coming for the last chapter of this story to be told, but in less than a month, fans will see the beginning of the end.

Only eight episodes remain, with many loose ends that need to be tied up. Our survivors find themselves amid a battle against the Commonwealth, who has overtaken their home communities and threatened the lives of their families.

The trailers for these episodes are action-packed and find our survivors in life-or-death situations.

The Walking Dead final premiere episode

AMC will begin airing the last eight episodes of The Walking Dead on October 8 at 9 p.m. ET.

During the midseason finale, Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton) had taken over the communities of Alexandria, Hilltop and Oceanside. Viewers also saw Connie (Lauren Ridloff) and her crew distribute a rogue publication revealing underhanded schemes by the Milton family.

The midseason premiere episode of season 11 is titled “Lockdown.” The plot details tell us that Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) will head to the Commonwealth to stop Hornsby from harming their families. This will be Negan’s first introduction inside the walls of this community. Governor Pamela Milton (Laila Robins) will be dealing with public outcry and demands for justice regarding her son Sebastian’s (Teo Rapp-Olson) crimes. The public is demanding justice. And Mercer (Michael James Shaw) and Rosita (Christian Serratos) fight off a horde of walkers.

The trailer also showed what some call “smart zombies” as they look to be climbing walls. Showrunner Angela Kang has said these walkers are a throwback to the one from the beginning of the series. Those walkers were the brainchild of Frank Darabont, the series’ first showrunner. After Darabont was fired, new showrunner Glen Mazzara chose to revert to the walkers found in the comics, who were slow and unintelligent. It is an excellent call back to Darabont, but perhaps it is also a hint of what’s to come in some of the spinoff series.

The Walking Dead episode 1117 will air on Sunday, October 2, with episodes 1117 and 1118 premiering on AMC+ that same day.
