Does Rick Grimes die in The Walking Dead series?

One question that pops up often is, what season did Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) die in The Walking Dead series? Many who stopped watching are curious about Rick, and sometimes the questions come from fans who watch who can’t remember when he left the series.

Andrew Lincoln left the series during season 9. He needed to step back from filming to be able to spend time with his family. He was filming in Georgia in the United States while his wife and children were living in the UK.

But the good news for fans of Rick is he didn’t die. In the season 9 episode “What Comes After,” Rick pulled a heroic move and blew up a bridge to protect those he loves. This was a shock to all who watched, especially his wife Michonne (Danai Gurira) and brother Daryl (Norman Reedus). Viewers were shown that he didn’t die but was blown clear and landed on a river bank.

He was rescued by Anne aka Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh), who took him away in a Civic Republic Military (CRM) helicopter to a location that has yet to be revealed.

Some other great news for Rick fans, he, along with Michonne, will soon return to The Walking Dead universe for a series of their own titled The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. The actors left the series in seasons 9 and 10. When Michonne discovered that her love survived the blast, and she went in search of him. This was to account for the fact that Gurira left the series to pursue other interests.

At the 2022 San Diego Comic Con, Lincoln and Gurira surprised everyone when they arrived on stage and announced their return.

The series filmed in and around New Jersey in 2023 and wrapped filming in May. The release date hasn’t been announced but the series will premiere in 2024.

Rick and Michonne will continue the epic love story of the couple who have been apart for many years. In the series finale of The Walking Dead, fans were treated to a coda scene which gave some insight as to what they have been up to since their departure from the series.

Details of additional casting for this series have been kept under wraps. Lucifer actress Lesley-Ann Brandt has been announced as a character named Pearl Thorne and Pollyanna McIntosh is expected to return as Jadis. Actors  Scott McPherson, Frankie Quinones, and Jose Rodriguez have all posted on social media about their involvement.
