Daryl Dixon was introduced on The Walking Dead series in season 1, episode 2, “Tell it to the Frogs.” Played by Norman Reedus, Daryl is one of several characters who have made a drastic transformation since their introduction. Gone is the redneck loner and in his place is someone who has finally found a family he can feel comfortable joining and looking out for.

During the Talking Dead finale episodes preview show, showrunner Angela Kang had some fascinating insight into Daryl in the final episodes of the series. The last eight episodes of The Walking Dead will premiere on AMC on October 2, 2022, at 9 p.m. ET. This is a bittersweet time in the fandom as the reality of the end has set in.

Will Daryl step up as a leader in these final moments?

During the Talking Dead special, Cooper Andrews, who plays Jerry in the series, was asked about Daryl’s choice of killing Leah (Lynn Collins) to save Maggie (Lauren Cohan). Cooper commented that Daryl can’t get a break. Every time Daryl feels close to someone, things go south, and he has to do something he would rather not do.

He and Leah seemed to hit it off well, both wanting to live alone in the woods. But, later, it would be discovered that she was part of the group that terrorized Maggie’s most recent community of Meridian.

Daryl and Maggie have history. They have known each other through some terrible times, and Daryl, undoubtedly, still feels guilt surrounding Maggie’s husband Glenn’s (Steven Yeun) death. So, of course, he was going to save Maggie.

Kang added to Andrew’s comments stating that Daryl isn’t the type to take leadership and make speeches to the others in the group. But, in the final episodes, Daryl will have to step up and be a driving force in bringing our survivors together again to fight the Commonwealth.

Fans were excited to see Daryl holding Rick Grimes’ (Andrew Lincoln) gun in the trailer. Many believe it is a clue to Rick’s appearance in the final episodes. Most fans agree that Rick should make an appearance. Only time will tell if this will happen.

Daryl will somehow find himself in France in a spinoff series of his own after the flagship series ends.

Don’t miss The Walking Dead’s final episodes beginning October 2, 2022, on AMC.
