Exciting news for fans of The Walking Dead’s Tom Payne. He has joined Kevin Costner’s new western Horizon. Payne teased fans about a new project with photos of his new haircut. Today Deadline reports that Payne joins fellow Walking Dead alum Michael Rooker and others in this movie.

This film is directed by Costner, who co-wrote the story with Jon Baird.  The movie chronicles 15 years of pre- and post-American Civil War during the westward expansion. The story will be told through the eyes of several people and show their arduous journey west. The characters will battle natural elements, interact with indigenous people living on the land and highlight the determination these settlers had to settle the wild west.

Payne was announced with Abbey Lee, Wasé Chief, Tim Guinee, Michael Angarano, Colin Cunningham, Scott Haze, Angus Macfadyen, Douglas Smith and Jon Beavers. These actors were added to the previously announced cast Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jamie Campbell Bower, Luke Wilson, Thomas Haden Church, Jena Malone, Alejandro Edda, Tatanka Means, Michael Rooker, Isabelle Fuhrman and Ella Hunt.

Costner will also star in the film, the first time he has been in a Civil War setting since Dancing with Wolves (1990). He will return to Paramount on November 13 as the Dutton Patriarch in Yellowstone.

Tom Payne – other projects

Payne portrayed Paul Rovia, aka Jesus, on The Walking Dead series from seasons 6-9. He was an outstanding character who brought the comic character to life on screen. His death ranks up there with some of the most shocking in the series. It was done so well, and it was one that AMC didn’t announce ahead of time.

After leaving TWD, Payne took the role of Malcolm Bright on Prodigal Son. This series ran for two seasons, and despite fans’ efforts, it wasn’t renewed.
