The Walking Dead: Lauren Cohan shares favorite scene from season 5
By Renee Hansen
Lauren Cohan is known for her portrayal of Maggie Rhee (née Green) in The Walking Dead since season 2. She left the series for a short time and then returned in season 10. She has endured much heartache throughout the series, losing many loved ones along the way. The final episode’s premiere on October 2 on AMC and AMC+, but that won’t be the end of Maggie’s story. She will star in a series with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), The Walking Dead: Dead City.
As the final episodes begin to air, many of the cast and crew have shared favorite memories and behind-the-scenes photos from past seasons. During the recent Talking Dew show, Cohan shared her favorite scene to film.
The scene was from season 5, episode 5, “Self Help,” when Abraham (Michael Cudltiz) took his group along with Maggie (Cohan), Glenn (Steven Yeun), and Tara (Allana Masterson) towards Washington DC. Eugene (Josh McDermitt) had kept up his lie of being a scientist with information for a cure which made Abraham hellbent on getting him where he need to be to end the spread of the virus.
The bus blows a tire, flips over, and eventually bursts into flames. This is the scene Cohan fondly remembers.
The Walking Dead season 5, episode 5
We all know The Walking Dead is a serious show about a zombie apocalypse and it may appear all business during the airing of the episodes, but Cohan assures fans they are all silly behind the scenes. The BTS photos of this episode confirm her statement.
Below is the photo of the burning bus and the scene Cohan remembers well. They had to stay far enough away from the bus not to be burnt but close enough to stay in the scene. She remembers McDermitt’s mullet was singed, and she and Masterson were cracking up during filming, which she says you can notice upon a rewatch of the episode.
