The Walking Dead will return to AMC on October 2, 2022, at 9 p.m. ET. This will begin the airing of the last eight episodes of the series. Our survivors are in for a battle against the new big bad, the Commonwealth, and it looks to be action-packed from the trailer. As bittersweet as it is, The Walking Dead will end in November, but Khary Payton said, “This should feel like a celebration. If happiness can be covered in blood, this is the place. Let’s do it.”

On August 22, 2021, the final season premiere of The Walking Dead aired on AMC. That has been over a year ago, and fans may need a recap of what has occurred this season. To refresh our memories, let’s look at the high points in season 11, part 1.

The Walking Dead season 11 part 1 recap

Maggie and Negan – since her return, Maggie has been throwing evil glances Negan’s way as she seeks to avenge her dead husband. Their encounters were bumpy initially, but they eventually came to a truce while trying to obtain much-needed supplies for Alexandria. They even had a heart-to-heart talk which, to Maggie’s chagrin, she learned that she isn’t so different than Negan. He even instructed her on how to be a Whisperer so she could travel undetected to the community of Meridian.

Eugene -hasn’t made a good first impression on the Commonwealth leaders.  He was caught trying to contact Alexandria and then slugs the governor’s spoiled son Sebastian. He was given a choice, give up Alexandria’s location or be thrown in jail.

Daryl – had an unexpected blast from the past, discovering that Leah is a Reaper. He, once again, infiltrates the enemy to aid his family. Leah then betrays him by killing Pope, the leader of the Reapers, and blames Daryl.

March on Meridian – Maggie and Elijah, disguised as Whisperers, travel with a horde of walkers headed to Meridian. This begins the Reaper war as Leah orders the wicked hwacha fired on Maggie and the rest.

Connie and Virgil – Virgil was able to help Connie reunite with her sister Kelly and the rest of their family. But not before enduring a haunted house filled with ferals.

Storm at Alexandria – as if this community hasn’t had enough with all the damage from the Whisperer war, now a storm and a horde of walkers threaten this community.

Part 1 of season 11 ended on several cliffhangers as fans were made to wait until February 2022 to find out what happens.

Looking back, it is crazy to think that all of this happened in the first eight episodes of the final season of The Walking Dead.
