The Walking Dead series concluded on November 20, 2022. This was disappointing news for most fans who enjoyed this series for 12 years. AMC has generated many spinoff series within the fandom to continue the expansion of TWDU, which has grown beyond anyone’s imagination and has a die-hard fan base. The network would be crazy not to continue this franchise.
The first spinoff series was Fear the Walking Dead. This story began at the onset of the outbreak, which was something not seen in the flagship series. Fear TWD wrapped its series after an eight-season run on November 19, 2023, almost one year after the main series ended. The final season ended with a two-part finale that received mixed reviews.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond was the second spinoff, a coming-of-age apocalypse story. Many fans didn’t like the slow burn of season 1, as it was much character-establishing. But, the second season proved quite interesting as we saw the return of Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) and learned much more about the Civic Republic. World Beyond was a limited series consisting of 2 seasons that will likely impact events in the Rick and Michonne spinoff.
The Walking Dead spinoffs
During the summer of 2022, Tales of the Walking Dead, an episodic anthology featuring standalone stories, debuted. The first season pushed the boundaries of The Walking Dead universe by featuring many new characters in different locations around the US and during time periods during the outbreak. This series also delved into some very different themes, from comedy to warped reality to supernatural. There has been no announcement about additional seasons for this series.
The Walking Dead: Dead City, originally titled Isle of the Dead, features the continuation of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) stories as they travel to Manhattan to rescue her son Hershel (Logan Kim). Many new characters were introduced, including several unsavory ones. The first season ended with Maggie trading Negan to a former Savior to ensure Hershel’s release. AMC has renewed Dead City for a second season.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon began its first season in September 2023 and saw Norman Reedus reprise his role as the titular character. He makes his way to France, a location he had no desire to travel to, where he meets new and exciting people while he makes plans to return home. The series will air a second season in 2024, including the addition of Carol Peletier, portrayed by Melissa McBride.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is the highly anticipated series that will see Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira reprise their roles as Rick and Michone. This series is said to be “an epic love story” and will reunite the couple who have been apart for quite some time. The Ones Who Live will premiere on AMC on February 25, 2024.
