Paola Lázaro is well known in The Walking Dead universe for her portrayal of Juanita Sanchez, AKA Princess. Her introduction was incredible as it appeared she walked off the comic pages. Introduced in season 10 of the series, Princess had been alone for over a year and was delighted to finally see some humans. She met Ezekiel (Khary Payton), Eugene (Josh McDermitt), and Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura) as they were on their way to meet Eugene’s friend Stephanie (Margot Bingham). She accidentally spooked their horses away and felt it was her responsibility to help them make it to their destination.

Since then, she has become a vital part of the group who has finally found a place she fits in, and now it is crumbling before her.

The Walking Dead – Princess

The Walking Dead series is quickly drawing to its conclusion, and the story will differ significantly from the comic book ending. Gone are major players in that story, but one character who is taking her queues from the comic story is Princess.

Lázaro has given this role her all and making the story from the comics take on a new life because of the depth and strength she has given to Princess.

Below is a comic story recently brought to life on the series in season 11, Episode 19, “Variants.” When read from the comic page, it is a very impactful story and delves deep into Princess’ traumatic childhood. But, when Lázaro performed these scenes in the series, it took on a whole new meaning as a flesh and blood person.

Paola Lázaro is a welcome addition to TWD Family, and her portrayal of Princess exceeded what fans hoped for this character. She has made fans who have experienced similar childhood traumas, PTSD, ADHD, and more, feel represented and heard.
