The Walking Dead series is based on the comic book created by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore, the artist of the first six issues and cover artist for the first 24 issues. After that, Charlie Adlard would serve as an illustrator for the remaining issues. Adlard will be featured in a gallery show, but this will be unlike any of his comic art and will showcase another side of his work.

Adlard is a British artist hailing from Shrewsbury, UK, where he will come back to his roots for this new gallery show. The Shropshire Star reports beginning on November 15 and running through December 9th, Adlard will feature a selection of figurative sketches in an exhibition titled “Life” at The Hive Gallery in Shrewsbury.

This series of sketches were created by Adlard during The Hive’s Tuesday Life Drawing classes ahead of the pandemic. This is quite the change from his usual comic art, as seen in The Walking Dead, Savage, and Damn Them All comics.

Adlard has compiled his portfolio of the sketches into a book he will be signing on opening night, Tuesday 15th November 2022, which is FREE and open to all. You can view the sketches on his website as well: Life Drawing

Adlard had this to say about the show:

"“I’m very excited about it. People know me from comics and zombies but they don’t get to see how I apply my artistry to drawing from life, as well as the different techniques I use and new ways I use to express myself. It’s separate to my drawing of comic books. That’s why I like it."

Be sure to check out Adlard’s new collaborative horror series, Damn Them All, scheduled for release on October 26. This new original comic features Adlard’s talents along with writer Simon Spurrier known for Hellblazer, colorist Sofie Dodgson (Bitter Root), and letterer Jim Campbell (All-New Firefly).

The story follows Ellie “Bloody El” Hawthorne, an occultist for hire who, after her uncle’s death, must track down the 72 devils of the Ars Goetia, who have mysteriously been released. She will use all the weapons in her arsenal to exile the demons and send them to Hell.
