This week’s Walking Dead episode highlighted Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura) and her role at the Commonwealth. Before the outbreak, Yumiko was an attorney, and according to Commonwealth rules, residents are placed in careers similar to their experience. She finds herself as legal counsel for Governor Pamela Milton (Laila Robins).

This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead season 11, episode 20, “What’s Been Lost.”

Yumiko was introduced in season 9, after the time jump. She and her group, Connie (Lauren Ridloff), Kelly (Angel Theory), Magna (Nadia Hilker) and Luke (Dan Fogler), were rescued by an older Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming). They became productive members of the communities, and all but Luke, who resides at Oceanside, have relocated to the Commonwealth.

In the recent episode “What’s Been Lost,” the majority of our survivors have been abducted and removed from the Commonwealth. This leaves Yumiko, as she works for the governor, Eugene (Josh McDermitt), who is in prison, and Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) as they were able to fight off the abductors.

The Walking Dead – Yumiko

Governor Milton threatens Yumiko by using her friends and brother Tomi (Ian Anthony Dale) as leverage. She expects Yumiko to prosecute Eugene for the death of her son Sebastian (Teo Rapp-Olsson). Just when it appears Yumiko will announce her intent to carry out the governor’s orders, she shocks everyone by announcing that she will, in fact, be representing Eugene in the case.

This goes against the advice of her brother and even Eugene. It will be very interesting to see what happens next. There have been clips of Eugene in a courtroom in the trailers, but will he be able to get a fair trial in this community? If he is found guilty, he will indeed be killed.

Eleanor Matsuura – other roles

Matsuura currently has a great movie on Netflix titled I Used to be Famous. She plays the mother of Stevie (Leo Long), an autistic child who befriends a former boy band member, still trying to “make it” 20 years after his heyday. Stevie possesses an outstanding sense of rhythm, and despite their differences, their love of music draws them together.

Other roles she is known for include Feel Good, This Time with Alan Partridge, Zach Snyder’s Justice League, Wonder Woman, Into the Badlands, and more.
