Celebrate National Author’s Day with The Walking Dead
By Renee Hansen
November 1 is National Author’s Day, and many of our favorite Walking Dead actors can boast the title of authors on their resumes. Fans love seeing the other avenues of talent the TWDU actors possess, and several of them have published books. National Author’s Day is a great day to peek at some of the fantastic authors within TWDU.
Norman Reedus, who portrays Daryl Dixon in the series, has several photography books featuring another of his talents as an avid photographer. Head to his website bigbaldgallery.com to pre-order a signed copy of The Sun’s Coming Up…Like a Big Bald Head, which had been sold out for quite some time. He also has Portraits from the Woods, a collection of photos in which fans will see many familiar faces.
He also took the plunge and wrote a novel titled The Ravaged, which has earned its place on the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and Los Angeles Times bestseller lists. Reedus has also begun work on a second novel.
The Walking Dead – actors who are authors
Ann Mahoney
Another TWDU actress who is also a writer is Ann Mahoney, who portrayed Olivia, the inventory manager at Alexandria. She is also the character who had the privilege of slapping Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan0) for his crude comment. Mahoney has penned a book, Slap!!! Courage for the On-Camera Actor. This book serves as a guide for actors trying to break into the business or those looking to transition from stage to film and/or tv work.
Vincent M. Ward
Vincent M. Ward is well known in TWDU for this portrayal of Oscar, one of the prisoners discovered by Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his group in the West Georgia Correctional Facility from season 3. Be sure to check out this book, The Step Daddy Volume 1. This story begins as a murder mystery which becomes a battle between good and evil as Rochelle seeks to discover if Paul is “the one.”
Callan McAuliffe
The character Alden, who died in season 11 at the hands of the Reapers, was portrayed by Callan McAuliffe. He has written a book, illustrated by his father, Roger McAuliffe, an author and journalist, titled The Hill Ghost. Set in rural Scotland in the early 19th century, this book follows a noble Tibetan mastiff and a seagull tasked with protecting their sheep from a pack of wolves.
Hilarie Burton Morgan
During season 10c episode “Here’s Negan,” fans were finally introduced to Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) wife Lucille, played by his real wife, Hilarie Burton Morgan. She did a fantastic job in this role, and fans wish she survived to see more of this powerhouse character. Burton Morgan wears several hats, one of which is author. She has written a book, The Rural Diaries: Love, Livestock, and Big Life Lessons Down on Mischief Farm, that chronicles the Morgan’s lives on their farm, Mischief Farm, in upstate New York. She has also shared that she has begun writing her next book.
Be sure to check out Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga’s Walking Dead book series. This story digs deeper into the comic world’s most infamous villain Philip Blake, AKA The Governor.
