During the most recent episode of The Walking Dead, “Outpost 22,” events drew to close in familiar territory. This episode slowly brings our survivors back together to take on the Commonwealth and their shady dealings.

The episode opens where the previous one left off, with several of our survivors being exiled from the Commonwealth against their wills. Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Rosita (Christian Serratos), and Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) were traveling in a military vehicle while the others were on a bus. Never fear; Carol (Melissa McBride) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) were close behind due to the information they obtained from Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton) before he died.

Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Ezekiel (Khary Payton), and Kelly (Angel Theory) were shipped to a labor camp, while Maggie, Rosita, and Gabriel were able to escape. Poor Annie (Medina Senghore), Negan’s wife, was shipped off to a different location.

Connie was singled out and given the Designation Two label, which we later learned isn’t good. People marked with this designation are taken away and never seen again. She was transported via the train that Hornsby told Carol and Daryl about. Luckily they were able to save her.

We have long been teased with the Outpost 22 sign, the new name for the community formerly known as Alexandria. The title informed viewers that this location would be involved in this episode, but nothing else was revealed.

After their day of hard labor, Negan, Ezekiel, and Kelly returned to the bus to head to a new location. It would later be revealed that our survivors were headed home.

Rosita got the train’s radio up and running and made contact with the Commonwealth. This is where they learn where the remaining survivors are headed, Alexandria.

Maggie, in a very Rick Grimes-ish (Andrew Lincoln) manner, states

"Milton has underestimated us since day one. We are gonna get our kids back, take back our home, and make it right. And Pamela’s never gonna see it coming."

It is fitting that the fight comes back to Alexandria, the place they called home, the place Hornsby made his empty promises, and more. Showrunner Angela Kang talks more about Outpost 22 in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
