On November 20, 2022, AMC aired the final episode of The Walking Dead. Titled “Rest in Peace, which is a nod to the Robert Kirman-created comic’s final volume, the episode did a great job of concluding this story to make way for a spinoff series that have impressed fans of the long-running main series. This week, we are looking back at events that led up to the final episode of The Walking Dead.

Over two years ago, it was announced that The Sexton Single Malt whiskey would be the official whiskey of The Walking DeadThe limited edition bottles include a special Walking Dead label that appears to be decaying, with quotes from Hershel (Scott Wilson), Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Daryl (Norman Reedus), and Michonne (Danai Gurira).

Ahead of the final episode, Cocktail Courier sent this writer “The Final Showdown” cocktail box for review.

The cocktail was created with the help of The Walking Dead’s Ross Marquand, who plays Aaron and is the brand ambassador for The Sexton’s limited Walking Dead whiskey. The goal was to create a signature cocktail worthy of the series’ diehard fans and whiskey drinkers. The kit was a fantastic way to celebrate the last season of the much-loved series.

“The Final Showdown” cocktail kit came with everything you needed, save rock glasses and ice, to create this flavorful adult beverage to sip and enjoy while watching the series’ final episodes.

The kit included the following:

1 The Sexton Single Malt Irish Whiskey
The Walking Dead Limited Edition 750 ml bottle
1 El Coto Rioja Crianza 375 ml bottle
1 Agave Syrup 4 oz bottle
2 Pineapple Juice 6.0 oz cans
4 Lemons
12 Dehydrated Lemon Wheels
1 ‘The Final Showdown’ Classic Recipe Card

As you can see in the photo, I had a little help preparing my cocktail from Lil Aaron. He was happy to lend a hand! (pun intended)

The recipe card gives the measurement for each ingredient and a tip about chilling the rocks glass beforehand. It is an excellent tip as this drink is very refreshing, and I think the colder, the better for this one.

I did take a shot of the whiskey to taste it sans cocktail ingredients, and although I am not a big whiskey straight drinker, I did like the flavor and smoothness of this one.

The kit included fresh lemons and cute dehydrated lemon slices, which adds to the undead vibe. Another unique feature was the red wine float added at the end. Simply pour the El Coto Rioja Crianza, a rich red wine full of fruity bursts of flavor, over a facedown spoon. (as pictured) The red floating on top gives off more undead vibes in keeping with the theme of The Walking Dead.

The fruit juices meld well with the smooth whiskey, and the red wine adds an exciting layer to the cocktail that is quite pleasing. As a lover of unique cocktails, I give this one an A+.
