Walking Dead actor Ian Anthony Dale joins cast of The Resident
By Renee Hansen
Ian Anthony Dale portrays Dr. Tomichi Okumura in The Walking Dead series. Tomi, as he is known, is the brother of Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura), and the two were reunited at the beginning of season 11. Tomi had been living quietly as a baker in the Commonwealth until Yumiko let it slip that he was trained as a doctor. TV Line reports that Dale has joined the Fox series The Resident cast.
Dale will also play a doctor in The Resident, Dr. James Yamada, a new cardiologist at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. You can see a sneak peek of the episode here.
The Resident is a medical drama currently airing its sixth season on Fox. Based on the book Unaccountable by Marty Makary, the series follows the staff members of Chastain’s work and personal lives while at the same time focusing on the administration of the hospital.
Dale posted a first look at his character on social media. Matsuura weighed in, saying, “I always said you’re a doctor, not a baker.”
The Walking Dead – Ian Anthony Dale
Dale is well-known for his role as Louis Bravo in the series All Rise, which airs on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). He has starred in seasons 2 and 3 of that series.
You will recognize him from other roles: Hawaii Five-0, The Hangover, Salvation, Murder in the First, The Event, Day Break, and more.
Although Dale’s character, Tomi, wasn’t introduced to The Walking Dead story until the final season, he played a vital part in one character’s story. He is the surgeon who aided Carol (Melissa McBride) in getting Ezekiel moved up on the surgery list and receiving the life-saving procedure he needed.
Tomi tried to convince Yumiko that going against Pamela Milton (Laila Robins) was a bad idea. He was last seen in the audience when Yumiko announced she would defend Eugene (Josh McDermitt) against the Commonwealth.
