The Walking Dead’s penultimate episodes left viewers with significant cliffhangers, as expected. On November 20, 2022, events will pick up where they left off, and viewers will see the flagship series conclude its story.

This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead season 11, episode 23, “Family.”

Each week Undead Walking chooses someone as the MVP of the episode. The title can be given for a heroic act, a significant kill, or just being a fantastic person to someone else.

This week’s episode, “Family,” saw many courageous acts from almost all of our survivors. As they all came together to battle against the Commonwealth, it was all hands on deck, and everyone brought their A-game, making it a difficult choice.

Daryl (Norman Reedus) does get an honorable mention for taking charge of Judith (Cailey Fleming), who was shot by Governor Milton (Laila Robins). It was hard to narrow it down to just one, so two characters will receive this title this week.

THE MVPS OF THE WALKING DEAD FAMILY – AARON AND JERRY

The Walking Dead season 11 episode 23

It was a terrifying scene to watch Aaron (Ross Marquand), Jerry (Cooper Andrews), Lydia (Cassady McClincy), Elijah (Okea Eme-Akwari), Luke (Dan Fogler), and Jules (Alex Sgambati) walk among the horde of walkers. Especially with the “climbers,” the walkers with climbing and other capabilities in their midst.

Since this was the second to the last episode of the series, it wouldn’t have been shocking to see one or more of our survivors die in the middle of this horde. But instead, Lydia gets bitten on the arm and, as she is pulled into the RV by Aaron and Jerry, begs to go after Elijah, with whom she has formed a relationship. They tell her she knows her fate if she goes and that she has to stay as she knows what needs to be done.

Fans of the series have seen it before, so it wasn’t a shock to see what was to come. But to have two of the most tender-hearted of our heroes be the ones to perform the task was heartwrenching. When Aaron looked at Lydia and said, “You are so loved, Lydia,” and witnessed the sorrow on Jerry’s face, viewers couldn’t help but tear up.

They try to hard to console her as she begs to go looking for Elijah and the others. Aaron and Jerry are both parents who are looking after Lydia as if she was their own daughter.  When Jerry volunteers to go look for them so Aaron can get her the much-needed medical care. “We’ll meet up later…I find them, I find you. Piece of cobbler. See you on the other side,” makes fans realize it may be Jerry whose life will be lost.

The Walking Dead series final airs on November 20, 2022, on AMC and AMC+.
