Sundays are for The Walking Dead series, but soon that statement will prove false. The Walking Dead is airing the last season ever for the series. The eleventh mega season consists of 24 episodes released in three segments beginning in August 2021. On October 2, the third and final installment of episodes started airing.
On November 13, 2022, the penultimate episode will air on AMC, with the series finale episode airing on November 20. As of the publishing of this article (November 13), there are two remaining episodes. The first is titled “Family,” with the final “Rest in Peace,” borrowing its name from the final volume of the comics.
It is a sobering thought to think that this series has finally come to a conclusion. It is sad to say that no end will likely satisfy fans but reassured there is more to come within The Walking Dead universe.
The Walking Dead spinoff series
The Walking Dead universe has released three spinoff series, with three more in the making.
Fear the Walking Dead is filming its eighth season which could possibly see the first part of the season released in early 2023.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond was a coming-of-age, limited series consisting of two seasons.
Tales of the Walking Dead is an anthology series introducing new characters in new locations throughout the US and taking place across many periods post-apocalypse with an episode that takes place 30 years after the outbreak.
Next, AMC will release season 1 of The Walking Dead: Dead City starring Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), in April 2023. This series will also mark the first direct spinoff of the flagship series.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is currently filming in France and will expand Daryl’s (Norman Reedus) story and possibly feature some familiar faces.
The final series that has been announced will see the return of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) in their own spinoff.
As sad as losing The Walking Dead is, it is time to move and see what other stories are out there.
