The Walking Dead season 2: Looking back at the Well Walker

The Walking Dead series never uses the word zombie to describe the undead but uses alternate monikers. Walker is the most prominent throughout the series, and viewers have seen a wide variety of walkers over the eleven seasons.

The Walking Dead has had amazingly gory scenes throughout the series, mainly featuring the undead. Fans have seen some seriously gruesome walkers attacking and often killing our survivors. Greg Nicotero and his crew at KNB EFX Group have always prided themselves on making this series something extraordinary in the FX department.

One walker that stands out because of the work of Nicotero and the FX department was during season 2, episode 4, “Cherokee Rose.” The group encounters the grotesque well-walker on the farm of Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson).

The Walking Dead – Cherokee Rose

Portrayed by Brian Keith Hillard, a member of the FX team, the well-walker was found at the bottom of one of the wells on the farm. Hershel told our survivors they could use this well for drinking water, but upon further inspection, this bloated blob was trapt at the bottom for quite some time.

They came up with the idea of removing the walker, although I am not sure who would drink from the well after this thing had been steeping in the water for so long. But they decided to send Glenn down into the well to secure the walker with a rope to pull him out. Glenn narrowly escapes, and then they pull the walker from the well. This leads to an amazingly done scene where the walker is torn in two, and his guts spill out.

Rewatching this scene makes me sad to see all of the characters who are now gone. Everyone in this scene except Maggie has died.
