In this episode of the Undead Walking podcast, we welcome Sonya Thompson, one of the original walkers used in the early promotional campaigns for the series. She has also starred in several episodes of seasons 1 and 2 of The Walking Dead and many other roles during her career. Thompson is also a director and producer as well.

Her first zombie role was in the 2009 movie Zombieland as the Lunchroom Lady Zombie. Her scene was cut, but you can see the scene in the bonus material for the film. She was also chosen to be part of a training video for other actors to learn the art of being a zombie.

She is what is known as a Hero zombie (this is her on the right), one who is in full makeup, which could take from 1.5 – 2 hours in the make-up chair, and interacts with other characters in the series. Her story is fascinating, as she was chosen with eight others to be part of the original promotional campaign for the series. During our conversation, she shared terrific statistics surrounding that promotion and where the image of her as a walker has been circulated.

Be sure to listen below, as Sonya Thompson is a very fascinating woman who has led an exciting life. She also shares many fun memories of The Walking Dead series.
