The Walking Dead series finale was surprisingly satisfactory for fans. It is never a happy ending when a much-loved series ends its story, but the hope is that things can be concluded so that fans leave at least somewhat appeased. Although there were deaths in the finale, the body count was nearly as high as the title “Rest in Peace” first made it out to be.

When the title of The Walking Dead series finale was revealed, fans were certain the death toll would be massive. The title “Rest in Peace” was actually a nod to the final volume of the comics title. But in the finale season, almost everyone’s fate is at risk.

AMC announced several spinoff series that would star characters from the series, ensuring their lives would be spared. But with several prominent characters still surviving for the last episode, many worried for their favorites.

The Walking Dead final episode deaths

At the end of the penultimate episode, many characters’ fates were uncertain. Luckily Jerry (Cooper Andrews) and Elijah (Okea Eme-Akwari) returned to the Commonwealth unharmed. Lydia (Cassady McClincy) received a walker bite to the arm, but Jerry was able to cut off the limb so she wouldn’t become infected.

Another major scary event was Judith (Cailey Fleming), who was shot by Governor Milton (Laila Robins), but thanks to Dr. Tomi’s (Ian Anthony Dale) skills, she survived.

Two characters who haven’t been seen since season 10 returned in the final episodes, Luke (Dan Fogler) and Jules (Alex Sgambati). Jules, a member of Oceanside, took Luke with her after the Whisperer’s war. It was thought they would never be heard of again, like several other characters. But they did return only to lose their lives to walkers who were part of the horde that breached the Commonwealth walls. Luke was an original member of Magna’s (Nadia Hilker) group, and his passing was a very emotional scene.

There was another death at the doors of the hospital, and it appears this was that of Adriene (Keely McAllister), a member of Oceanside. She has been with Oceanside since season 7.

Another familiar face, although a member of the undead, was Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton). He was killed previously by an arrow in the neck shot by Carol (Melissa McBride). His walker form returned to the Commonwealth, and just when Milton was about to give in and allow him to bite her, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) shot him in the head.

The final death of the last episode of The Walking Dead was that of Rosita (Christian Serratos). In an act of heroism, she saved her daughter Coco but was bitten on the shoulder. She shared her last moments with those she loved, and it was a sad death to take in. Throughout her time in the series, she utilized her skills to become a warrior and leader of the communities.
