The Walking Dead, who is redeemable?

Who Is The Most Redeemable?

Cards on the table: I had almost decided not to write this, mostly because, when I started, I assumed it was a forgone conclusion; That changed, however, when I started talking about Sebastian.

As much of a douchebag as he was, the more I thought about his relationship with his mother, his opinion of the nature of that relationship (Specifically in comparison to his brother), and his apparent distaste for his mother’s methods, the more I began to question my original assessment of the final season’s villains, and which one was most deserving of redemption.

I began to think that maybe, just maybe, Sebastian should receive a second chance. He seemed more and more like someone unhappy with the role he was forced into, why he was being forced into it, and, more importantly, the system he was being groomed to carry on. He seemed disgusted with the rigged setup his mother created but, at the same time, resigned to the intransigence of it all.

However, in spite of this, I simply had to go with my original choice and say that Leah Shaw is the most redeemable villain of the final season of The Walking Dead.

More so than all of the others, Leah seemed to be the one with the strongest (And certainly most obvious) conscience, caring about the lives of her brothers-in-arms, trying to reason with her increasingly crazy CO, and even defying his orders to let an innocent family survive. Even her eventual heel turn was born out of her love for her fallen comrades and her desire to avenge their deaths at Maggie’s hands.

Obviously, she still did heel turn, but I feel like, unlike everyone else on the list, hers was mostly avoidable. Had things just gone a little differently, she might have been by Daryl and Maggie’s side trying to overthrow Pamela and liberate The Commonwealth, and the fact that she didn’t get that chance is tragic.
