The Walking Dead: Dead City is one of several new Walking Dead spinoffs in production at AMC Networks. This series will see a reunion of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan.) With a scheduled release date of April 2023, fans are highly anticipating this series as they try to figure out what will pair these two characters together.

Dead City will be set in Manhattan, a location cut off from the mainland early in the outbreak. During the course of the apocalypse, the island has been overrun by a horde of the undead that is over 1 million strong.  The remaining citizens live above the tenth floor of the buildings and use ziplines to travel between them.

There have been no announcements about what will take Maggie and Negan to Manhattan, and fans are curious how this will come about. In the series finale of The Walking Dead, Maggie and Negan had an emotional conversation about Maggie’s inability to forgive Negan for her husband Glenn’s (Steven Yeun) death. Maggie shared that when she tries to remember Glenn, she sees his bashed in head and Negan smiling at his work.

The Walking Dead: Dead City

The Walking Dead: Dead City will begin a few years after the 1-year time jump seen in the last episode of the flagship series. During the one-year time jump, Maggie was once again leading Hilltop, a community that had been built up again after the destruction of the Whisperer war in season 10. She mentions to Carol (Melissa McBride) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) that she wants to discuss the future. She says, “There’s a lot out there to find out about. And I think it’s time we did.”

Negan, his wife Annie (Medina Senghore), and his child, which would have been born by this time, are noticeably absent in the one-year time jump. This shows Negan did go his own way, similar to his comic book counterpart.

The newest photos released for the new series show that the reunion between Maggie and Negan may not be pleasant.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Morgan mentioned that Negan might return to some of his former behaviors, leading to a tense reunion between these two characters.

Only time will tell how things evolve in Maggie and Negan’s lives to bring them back together on a mission far from their homes.
