Fans of The Walking Dead are excited about the spinoffs that will be released in 2023. One spinoff that has the fandom buzzing will see the reunion of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). Gurira teased this reunion via Instagram on New Year’s Day 2023.
Gurira shared three photos of herself, two with Lincoln and a third with Lincoln and Walking Dead Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple. Filming for the series will begin in Atlanta on January 6, 2023.
The photos Gurira shared appear to be in a sports area, most likely located in New Jersey. Recently the New Jersey Motion Picture & Television Commission reported a new project on its website. AMC is listed as producing a new series titled Summit, with Lincoln and Gurira listed as cast members. The filming location address was listed as 50 State Route 120, East Rutherford, NJ 07073, which is the location of Meadowlands Sports Complex. This complex consists of MetLife Stadium, home to the New York Giants and Jets. There is also a racetrack and the Giants’ practice facility, Quest Diagnostic Training Center.
Gurira’s post states that pre-production is in full swing for the Richonne spinoff. She has recently gone on record to say that this series will likely release around or after Halloween 2023.
Danai Gurira – The Walking Dead Rick and Michonne spinoff
Little is known about this series besides that Lincoln, and Gurira will reprise their roles, and it is a continuation of Rick & Michonne’s epic love story. The series has been called a limited series, and several news outlets have reported that there will only be one season.
This series could easily find some familiar faces as Rick is known to have been captured by the CRM (Civic Republic Military), who also took Heath (Corey Hawkins) and Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) is now an officer in this organization. Fans are optimistic that this series will see Rick reunite with his children, Judith and RJ, a son he has never met.
Look for The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne (unofficial title) or Summit (working title) to debut in the fall of 2023.
